The University of Canterbury (UC) was established in 1873 by the scholars of Oxford and Cambridge and is New Zealand’s second oldest university. The University of Canterbury is a prestigious destination that is ranked in the world’s top 1% universities. It was also the first university in New Zealand to receive a five-star rating from QS for internationally renowned research and teaching. Its main campus is located in the Christchurch suburb of Ilam which is a beautiful space to learn in. UC has diverse range of study options offering over 120 qualifications in more than 150 different subject areas across its seven colleges. UC’s College of Engineering is the first engineering school in New Zealand, UC Civil Engineering is placed as top 9 in Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects released in 2021. UC Business School is among the top 1% of business school in the world with the accreditations from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. In 2021 student enrolments hit a record high in 2021 of 20,919, despite the ongoing challenges of Covid. This is the highest total in the University’s history. UC also recently achieved first in the world this year for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production and placed 50th in the Times Higher Education.
